More than 200-Indian fishermen released by Pakistan

More than 200-Indian fishermen released by Pakistan entered India on December 6 through the Wagah border crossing in a solemn mood, after one of their colleagues died due to cardiac arrest two days before their release.

The fishermen were arrested nearly a year ago when they strayed into Pakistan’s territorial water.

Their release comes amid a strain in ties between the two countries due militant attacks across their borders.

The UN Convention on the Law of the Sea states that fishermen who cross territorial waters can be warned and fined but not arrested.
