Won’t shy from befitting reply to ceasefire violations: Bipin Rawat
Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Sunday said peace across Line of Control is a priority but will not shy away from giving befitting reply to ceasefire violations.
Addressing a function in New Delhi on the occasion of Army Day, General Rawat also said confidence building measures have been undertaken with China at northern borders so tensions can be done away with.
He saluted martyrs who sacrificed their lives and said nation is indebted to them and their families.
The Army Chief also said action will be taken against soldiers who using the social media to air their grievances instead of going through the regular channels.
Earlier Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat, Air Force Chief BS Dhanoa and Chief of Indian Navy Sunil Lanba today paid tributes at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate.
The Chiefs also laid floral wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti remembering the martyred soldiers.
An impressive Army Parade was organised at the Delhi Cantonment. A surgical strike demonstration was also staged.
Army Chief General Bipin Rawat lauded the role of army in controlling the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Army Chief said, the Peace across LoC is priority but will not shy away from giving befitting reply to ceasefire violations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has greeted to all soldiers, veterans and their families on Army Day.
In a tweet message, PM Modi said, people of the country salute the courage and invaluable service of the Indian Army.
He said, Indian Army always leads from the front, be it in protecting the sovereignty of the nation and helping citizens during natural disasters. He said, the nation remember with great pride all the sacrifices made by the Army. Prime Minister Modi said, Army put their lives at risk so that 125 crore Indians live peacefully.
