Indonesian delegation led by Minister General (Retd.) Wiranto meets MoS Shri Kiren Rijiju

An Indonesian delegation led by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, General (Retd.) Wiranto held talks with the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju here today. Pointing out that the two countries share a lot of similarities such as being the world’s two largest Muslim population nations, democratic set-up and common cultural and social ties, Shri Rijiju said India is eager to consolidate its partnership with the largest nation in South East Asia to cement its ties with the ASEAN bloc.

Both leaders shared concerns on tackling fundamentalism, extremism and the threat posed by radicalization and the ISIS. Recalling his visit to Bali for the International Meeting on Counter-Terrorism in August last year, Shri Rijiju said he was very impressed with how Indonesia has effectively tackled the threat of the ISIS on its soil. Both the Ministers expressed hope that they can deepen their cooperation on counter terrorism matters. The two sides also evinced interest to enhance ties in intelligence sharing and cyber security.

Shri Kiren Rijiju mentioned that India recognized Indonesia’s key role in the ASEAN and appreciated its strong commitment to regional peace and security. The Ministers discussed various issues on security cooperation and assured mutual commitment to strengthen bilateral engagement in this regard.
