Nepal polls: Vote counting underway

In Nepal counting of votes for the first phase of local elections is underway in 34 districts.

So far Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has won 59 posts of Mayor and Chairperson and leading in 43.

Nepali Congress got 52 and ahead in 38 local bodies. Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) has won 21 and leading in 13.

Rashtriya Prajatantra Party won in one local body. Others are leading in 2 places.For Deputy Mayor and Vice Chairperson posts, Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has won 62 and leading in 36.

Nepali Congress has got 37 and ahead in 30 places. Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) won 22 and leading in 16 local bodies.

Rashtriya Prajatantra Party got 4 and leading at 1 place. Rashtriya Janmorcha got 2 seats.Others are leading in 2 local bodies. In the capital Kathmandu CPN (UML) candidate is leading for Mayor post and Nepali Congress is ahead for Deputy Mayor.

The historic local elections in Nepal were held after a gap of 20 years on Sunday.73 percent voters exercised their franchise in 3 provinces in the first phase. Polling for remaining 4 provinces will be held in second phase on June 14.
