Nepal: UML emerges as largest party in local elections

In Nepal, counting of votes for the first phase of local elections is almost complete. More than 90 percent results have been so far declared. Results of Mayor and Chairperson in 275 local bodies have been declared so far.

Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has emerged as the largest party.

It has won 119 posts and leading in 5. Nepali Congress got 103 and ahead in 2 local bodies. Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) has won 46.

Others got 7 seats. Results of 267 Deputy Mayor and Vice Chairperson have also been declared.

Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has won 131 and leading in 3. Nepali Congress got 80 and ahead in 3 places.

Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) has won in 45 and leading in 1.

Rashtriya Prajatantra Party got 5, Rashtriya Janmorcha beg 2 and others got 4 seats.

In Mayor election of four metropolitan cities, CPN (UML) is leading in Kathmandu, Bharatpur and Pokhara and Nepali Congress is ahead in Lalitpur.

Local elections in Nepal were held after a gap of 20 years on May 14 for 283 local bodies. 73 percent voters exercised their franchise in 3 provinces in the first phase. Polling for remaining 4 provinces will be held in second phase on June 14.
