Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Germany to attend G-20 Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will head to Hamburg to be a part of the G-20 meet taking with him a firm message on the global menace of terrorism.
In the second and final leg of his two-nation tour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Germany to attend the 12th G-20 Summit. India will raise black money issue, sustainable development goals at G-20.
Leaders of the Group of 20 major world economies will be meeting later this week at Hamburg in Germany.
The G-20 countries account for more than four-fifths of Gross world product and three-quarters of global trade.
They are home to almost two-thirds of the world’s population. In that context expectations are always high from a G-20 summit.
In the last G-20 summit in 2016 in China, PM Modi highlighted the issue of countering corruption, black money and ensuring sustainable growth through collaborative action. He laid stress on a stable global economic and financial system to ensure growth.
In the 2015 summit in Antalya, Turkey, PM Modi proposed a 7-point agenda on climate change, which included increase the share of traffic on public transportation in cities by 30 per cent by the year 2030.
During the Brisbane Summit held in Australia in 2014, the Prime Minister made a strong pitch for repatriation of black money.
The Brisbane Action Plan mentioned India by name and paid a rich tribute to emerging markets as growing strongly.
Earlier this year, India organised two-day G-20 Framework Working Group Meeting in Varanasi in which officials from more than 30 countries met to discuss growth strategy to raise the world GDP by 2 per cent till 2018. Diplomats have lauded India’s role at the G-20.
The G-20 was formed in 1999 as a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors in the aftermath of the Asian financial crisis.
Later on in 2008, the first G-20 Leaders’ Summit was held and the forum played a key role in helping member countries respond to the global financial crisis.
G-20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany will be based on the theme: ‘Shaping an interconnected world’.
