M.J. Akbar, Minister of State of External Affairs to Sao Tome and Principe and Angola

Shri. M.J. Akbar, Minister of State of External Affairs visited Sao Tome and Principe and Angola from March 13-16, 2018.
The visit to Sao Tome being the first bilateral visit from India, was historic. On March 14, MOS met President Mr. EvaristoCarvalho, Prime Minister Mr. Patrice Emery Trovoada and Foreign Minister Mr. UrbinoBotelho and discussed matters of mutual interests.
MOS announced provision of computers for government offices and schools, assistance for providing English language couse and speed boats. He also offered training for defence personnel in premier defence institutes in India.
India assured Sao Tome and Principe of its support in the form of official developmental assistance, technical cooperation and capacity building to facilitate the rapid economic & social development of its people.
During the visit, Agreement on Economic Cooperation, MOU on cooperation in the Traditional Medicine Systems and MOU on Cooperation in the Field of Medicinal Plants were signed between the two countries.
Shri Akbar visited Angola on March 15-16, 2018. This was the first bilateral visit from India in last 10 years.
MOS held bilateral discussion with Mr. Marcos AlexandreNhunga, Minister of Agriculture and Forests. Mr. Nhunga sought India’s assistance in various Agricultural sectors, especially on establishment of Tractor Manufacturing Unit and fertilizer plant in Angola. MOS held delegation level talks with Mr. DomingosCustodio Vieira Lopes, Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities where Secretaries of State for Mining and Geology, Agriculture, Health and Telecommunication. A delegation from Ministry of Mines is scheduled to visit India shortly to hold discussion on possible areas of cooperation. India and Angola signed an MOU on cooperation in the fields of Electronics and Information Technology.
