PM Modi assures Nepal of India’s continued support for its economic development
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held extensive deliberations with Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, covering entire expanse of bilateral relationship and vowed to boost ties in key areas of defence and security, connectivity and trade.
In a joint media briefing after holding delegation-level talks with Nepal Prime Minister, Prime Minister Modi assured his Nepalese counterpart that India remains committed to strengthening its partnership with the Himalayan nation.
The two leaders also agreed to construct a new electrified rail line to connect the border city of Raxaul in India to Kathmandu. They also agreed to increase co-operation in the field of agriculture.
Prime Minister Modi also outlined the commonalities between his Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas motto and PM Oli’s Samridh Nepal, Sukhi Nepali vision.
Nepal Prime Minister said interdependence between India and Nepal takes many forms and the two nations enjoy a shared destiny. He called on India to support his country through the crucial phase of transition that it is going through.
The two leaders jointly inaugurated the Integrated Check Post at Birgunj, after which it was officially handed over to Nepal. Equipped with state of the art infrastructure ICP Birgunj has been constructed with the assistance from the Government of India. It will facilitate integrated customs and immigration for smooth cross-border movement of people and goods.
He said India and Nepal have strong relations in the area of security and are committed to stopping misuse of open borders. He also assured Nepal that India would continue to partner with Nepal in developing inland waterways to connect the landlocked country with sea ports.
Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli visited Pantnagar in Uttarakhand today. He visited the GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Breeder Seed Production Center and the Integrated Farming project, and enquired about the ongoing research at the crops there. Oli also planted saplings in the University campus.
