Poisened Russian spy’s daughter discharged from hospital
The daughter of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal who was found poisoned on a park bench in the British city of Salisbury with her father has been discharged from the hospital, said the Salisbury District Hospital on Tuesday.
Yulia Skripal, Sergei Skripal’s daughter, has been transferred to a “secure location” after being released from the hospital, while Sergei is still recovering in the hospital. The two were exposed to a nerve agent that attaches itself to a particular enzyme in the body, which then stops the nerves from functioning properly, according to the hospital.
“Our job in treating the patients is to stabilize them, ensuring that they can breathe, and that blood can continue to circulate. We then need to use a variety of different drugs to support the patients until they can create more enzymes to replace those affected by the poisoning. We also used specialized decontamination techniques to remove any residual toxins,” said Dr Christine Blanshard, the medical director at Salisbury District Hospital.
The Russian embassy in UK stated that “careful analysis” of the three statements released by the Salisbury Regional Hospital including the one on Tuesday never confirmed that Sergei and Yulia Skripal had symptoms of chemical poisoning and were treated for such.
“Notably today, Dr Blanshard has abstractly enumerated the general symptoms of such poisoning and explained how they are usually treated,” said a press release from the embassy’s press officer.
The embassy expressed their gratitude towards the medical personnel for the care provided to the Russian nationals but blamed the British authorities for continuing to isolate Yulia from the public to conceal evidence and block an impartial investigation.
