PM Modi to lay foundation of Zojila Tunnel
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Zojila Tunnel on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway in Leh on Saturday.
The Prime Minister also has a packed program in Jammu, which includes being the chief guest at the convocation of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences.
The Prime Minister will lay foundation stones, and inaugurate several infrasture projects. Details in this report.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Srinagar, Jammu and Leh on Saturday. He goes to Jammu and Kashmir bearing gifts of development.
Prime Minister Modi will dedicate to the nation a 330 MW Kishenganga hydroelectric project from Srinagar.
There are 7 functional NHPC power projects in J&K. Once the Kishenganga project is operationalized, power supply to the state will be optimized.
The project has been built at a cost of Rs 5200 cr. Prime Minister Modi personally monitored the progress of this critical project.
The construction of a 24 km long tunnel was constructed on the Kishenganga Dam was a challenging task.
Prime Minister Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the Srinagar ring road. This will boost connectivity with Bandipore, Uri and Ganderbal.
In Jammu PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Jammu ring road and Pakal dul Power Project.
The 1,000 MW Pakal Dul Hydroelectric Project will be constructed by Chenab Valley Power Projects Ltd When completed it will generate 3,330 MU of energy and will comprise of four units of 250 MW each. It is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 8,112 crore.
The ambitious Jammu Ring Road project is being constructed by NHAI. The 58.25 KM long road project would be constructed between Rayamorh-Vijaypur in Samba district to Jagti-Nagrota in Jammu district.
The road project is expected to be completed in around three years’ time period at an estimated cost of Rs. 2,024 crore.
The Ring road will pass through 60 villages, across two districts. Several bridges and fly overs as well as two tunnels are part of the project.
It will be a boon not just for the city of Jammu, but will also facilitate movement of army traffic to borders and strategically important areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Nowshera and Akhnoor.
Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the Tarakote Marg and Material Ropeway which will prove beneficial for Vaishno devi pilgrims.
In Leh, Prime Minister Modi will unveil the plaque for the Zoji La pass to mark the commencement of work.
It is situated at an altitude of 11,578 feet on Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway which remains closed during winters.
The Zoji La pass will be Asia’s longest bi-directional tunnel and is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 6,089 crore.
The main objective of the project is to provide all weather connectivity to strategically important Leh region in Jammu and Kashmir.
Prime Minister Modi will also participate in the closing ceremony of the birth Centenary of Buddhist spiritual leader the 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche.
The recipient of the Padma Bhushan, he was also a tall statesman and is described as the architect of Modern Ladakh.
In early 1948, when tribal raiders from Pakistan attacked Jammu and Kashmir, he successfully coordinated Indian efforts to protect Ladakh from falling into the hands of the enemy.
