Nepali Cong. critcises govt against awarding Budhi Gandaki Project to Chinese firm

In Nepal, the main opposition Nepali Congress has criticized government’s move to renew negotiations with China Gezhouba Group Company Limited to develop 1200 MW Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project.

The party has termed government’s decision to award the project to Chinese firm as surprising, opaque and objectionable.

In a statement issued after Central Working Committee meeting in Kathmandu, the party said there are establish procedures for constructing any project and awarding project without competitive bidding and due process is against the national interest.

The party has demanded that Budhi Gandaki project should be develop with domestic investment as recommended by study committee formed during Nepali Congress government last year.

Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli led government had decided last month to renew negotiations with the Chinese firm to handover Budhi Gandaki project reversing former Sher Bahadur Deuba government’s decision to develop it with internal resources.
