Maldives SC refuses to call secret witnesses and concluded hearing on President Abdulla Yameen’s petition
Maldives Supreme Court today refused to call secret witnesses and concluded hearing on President Abdulla Yameen’s petition to cancel the September 23 election.
Chief Justice said a judgment would be delivered at the next hearing but did not announce a date. The President’s lawyers wanted anonymous testimony from three unnamed witnesses but the court ruled against it unanimously.
President Yameen has sought a Supreme Court order for fresh polls despite accepting defeat at the hands of opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The latter is scheduled to take over as new President on 17th November.
