PM Modi to visit Singapore, Maldives next week
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on two important foreign tours next week. He will first be visiting Singapore on 14th and 15th November to attend the East Asia Summit. The Prime Minister will also be attending several other key meetings and talks on the sidelines of East Asia summit. Prime Minister Modi will also deliver the keynote address at Singapore Fintech Summit.
The Prime Minister will then be in Maldives on November 17 to attend the swearing in ceremony of newly elected President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Maldivian Democratic Party leader Solih defeated incumbent Abdullah Yameen in presidential race in September.
Prime Minister Modi had telephoned Solih to congratulate him on his win while Solih had invited PM Modi to attend his swearing in ceremony.
After a tumultuous relationship under President Yameen, ties between India and Maldives are again warming up. Prime Minister’s visit to Maldives in the backdrop of change of guard in that country is expected to pave way for a stronger partnership.
