Kim-Trump nuclear talks end abruptly without deal
US-North Korea nuclear summit in Hanoi ends abruptly without a deal; President Donald Trump says he had decided to “walk” in the face of Kim Jong Un’s demands to drop sanctions.
The 2nd summit meet between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ended abruptly on day 2 of talks without any agreement..No joint agreement was signed as talks ended in stalemate though a joint agreement signing event had been pre-arranged. Coming out the talks..Trump said he had to walk out of the talks as Kim wanted a complete walk back on sanction.
But Trump noted that Kim had vowed not to resume nuclear or ballistic missile testing — something he previously identified as a yardstick for success — and reiterated their “close” and “warm relationship”. However, he added that there was nothing on table right now for a 3rd summit meeting. He insisted he remains “optimistic that the progress we made” before and during the summit. It has left them “in position to have a really good outcome” in the future. Trump hoped that Kim will stick to his commitments.
The US President also maintained that he’d much rather to do it right than do it fast. The Hanoi talks was the 2nd summit meet after the historic first in Singapore. But the anticipation and expections built over it have been belied for now.
