Sri Lanka : Political and social spectrum greets PM Modi for second term
In Sri Lanka, the taking over of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his second term has been greeted from across the political and social spectrum.
President Maithripala Sirisena attended the swearing in ceremony and will have a bilateral meeting with Prime minister today.
He is being accompanied by four ministers including two belonging to Tamils of Indian origin which constitute a significant chunk of Sri Lankan population and look forward to PM Modi for leadership in the region.
Minister Mano Ganeshan greeted PM Modi on behalf of all Sri Lankan and Tamils of Indian origin saying they are happy to join the proud moment.
Sri Lankan media has projected Mr. Modi as positive development for the region saying it will help embattle the menace of terrorism in the region.
Prime minister is scheduled to make a short trip to Sri Lanka next week to express solidarity with the victims of Easter Sunday attacks and to reinforce his ‘Neighbourhood first’ policy.
