Terror Mastermind Hafiz Saeed arrested in Pakistan
Pakistan forced to act on terror networks, Terror Mastermind Hafiz Saeed arrested by Police in Pakistan on terror financing charges, sent to an undisclosed location.
The 2008 Mumbai attack mastermind and chief of the banned terror group Jamaat-ut-Dawa, Hafiz Saeed has been arrested in Pakistan.
The arrest has been made by the Counter Terrorism Department of the Punjab province Police.
According to Pakistani media reports, the Counter Terrorism Department on July 3 registered 23 FIRs against 13 leaders of the JuD including Saeed on the charges of “terror financing” in different cities of Punjab province.
He was travelling to Gujranwala from Lahore to appear before an anti-terrorism court when the arrest took place. He has been moved to an unknown location.
Saeed-led JuD is believed to be the front organisation for the Lashkar-e-Taiba which is responsible for carrying out the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people.
The US Department of the Treasury has designated Saeed as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, and the US, since 2012, has offered a USD 10 million reward for information that brings Saeed to justice.
Under pressure from the international community, Pakistani authorities have launched investigations into matters of the JuD and LeT regarding their holding and use of trusts to raise funds for terrorism financing.
