On 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Nepal Rastra Bank issues commemorative coins
To celebrate 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev the Nepal Rastra Bank has issued commemorative coins.
In special ceremony coins of 2500, 1000 and 100 Nepali rupees were launched in Kathmandu last evening. Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Dr. Chiranjibi Nepal and Indian Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri released commemorative coins.
Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee President Sardar Gobind Singh Longowal, Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh and many other prominent Sikh leaders from Punjab also joined the launching ceremony.
On this occasion Ambassador Puri expressed gratitiue towards Govt of Nepal, Nepal Rastra Bank and people of Nepal. In his address Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Dr. Chiranjibi Nepal lauded Sikh community for its remarkable contribution in the development of Nepal.
Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee President Sardar Gobind Singh Longowal said Guru Nanak Dev traveled many countries to spread real message of God. Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Harpreet Singh said Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings are not only for Sikhs but entire human beings. On this occasion a book “Sikh Heritage of Nepal” was also released.
The book published by Indian Embassy highlights Nepal’s Sikh connection which dates back to Guru Nanak Dev, who traveled through Nepal during his third Udasi.
The book also underlines Sikh community’s significant contribution in the development of Nepal. A large number of Sikh community representatives from Nepal as well as Nepalese people from all walks of life attended the historic event of honoring Nepal’s Sikh heritage.
