EAM Jaishankar is working with the bipartisan ahead of the SCO address on Thursday
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, along with several of his associates, had a busy schedule on Wednesday ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Foreign Ministers’ Council (CFM) meeting in Moscow.
EAM’s meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took place around 7 pm. After the meeting, Jaishankar tweeted:
“Happy to meet with FM Sergey Lavrov, this time in person. Excellent negotiations reflecting our special and privileged strategic partnership. Evaluate our exchange on the international situation.” Indicates th anniversary.
Both parties discussed issues within common multilateral institutions such as the SCO, BRICS and RIC. The Russian Foreign Minister tweeted, “We very much appreciate the opportunity to discuss the development of bilateral relations, strategic partnerships within the framework of the SCO, BRICS and the UN in all areas.”
Earlier in the day, EAM met with his Kyrgyz counterpart Chingiz Aidarbekov. Both leaders discussed issues of bilateral and regional interest and agreed to further enhance strategic collaboration across all sectors.
The Foreign Affairs Minister met with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirozuddin Muhriddin to discuss bilateral and regional cooperation.
Alongside the SCO, Russia-India-China is also expected to hold a RIC group meeting. EAM Jaishankar is expected to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The bilateral meeting is of particular importance in light of the ongoing military confrontation between the two countries throughout the LAC of Ladakh.
Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke via CFM on Wednesday evening via video conference. The meeting of the SCO Foreign Ministers will begin at 12:30 pm on Thursday.
