Bangladesh celebrates Victory Day for liberation from Pakistan
Bangladesh celebrates ‘Bijoy Dibosh’, Victory Day, the day of liberation from Pakistan and the day 1971 when Bangabandhu became an independent nation under the leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
As a mark of respect to the martyrs of the Bangladesh Liberation War, wreaths were laid on Wednesday morning on behalf of President M. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the National Memorial in Sauer on the outskirts of Kaka.
Victory Day is observed to a limited extent due to the current corona epidemic in the country.
The Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) on Facebook paid tribute to the Indian soldiers who fought alongside Muktibahini and to the Bangladesh and Indian Joint Forces.
In his message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina warned that the government would not allow anyone to create anarchy in the country in the name of religion. She said their government was determined to prevent any attempt to use religion as a political weapon to create social unrest.
Prime Minister Hasina, who called Bangladesh the land of Lalon Shah, Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Jibonanda, recalled that Bangladesh gained independence based on the sacrifices of people of all religions and creeds, including Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians. She said Bangladesh has a legacy of liberal spirituality and pluralism.
