Indian Friends of Bangladesh Liberation War honoured
The government of Bangladesh honoured a number of Indian citizens for their outstanding contribution to the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971.
Information Minister of Bangladesh Dr. Hasan Mahmud recognised their contribution by giving them the ‘Freedom Fighter Friendship Award’ at a function organised in Kolkata on Saturday, reports the official news agency BSS.
Handing over the crest of honour, Dr. Hasan Mahmud recalled a line from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman that Bangladesh India friendship will exist forever.
The function was organised at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata where Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had given his historic speech on February 6, 1972 after the liberation of Bangladesh a few months earlier in 1971.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Hasan Mahmud said that the celebration of the victory of Bangladesh was completed with the coming together of people of West Bengal with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on that day in 1972.
