UN consultant with environment ministry among 4 Indians killed in Ethiopia plane crash
Four Indians, including a UN consultant attached with the Environment Ministry, were among those killed in Ethiopia Airlines plane crash.
Condoling the deaths, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: “Anguished by the loss of lives due to the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines plane. My thoughts are with the bereaved families.”
External affairs minister Sushma swaraj also expressed grief over the unfortunate crash of Ethiopian Airlines plane. India lost four nationals in the air crash.
The External Affairs minister in a tweet said .. I have asked Indian High Commissioner in Ethiopia to provide all help and assistance to the bereaved families,” She further added that she is trying to reach the families of other Indian nationals. She also urged people to help her reach the families of those killed.
Union Minister Harshvardhan Singh also condoled the death of four Indian nationals who have died in an unfortunate crash of Ethiopian Airlines. he tweeted ..
Sadly,a UNDP consultant attached to Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Shikha Garg, also died in the crash. My prayers for the departed souls.
A Nairobi-bound Boeing 737 crashed minutes after an early-morning takeoff from Addis Ababa, killing all eight crew and 149 passengers on board, including four Indians, tourists, business travelers, and at least one delegate to a U.N meeting.
The crash happened at 08:44 local time, six minutes after the months-old Boeing 737 Max-8 took off. The cause of the disaster is not yet clear. However, the pilot had reported difficulties and had asked to return to Addis Ababa.
Ethiopian Airlines said Kenya had the largest number of casualties with 32, followed by Canada with 18, Ethiopia nine, then Italy, China, and the United States with eight each.
Britain and France each had seven people on board, Egypt six, and Germany five. Twelve countries in Africa and 14 in Europe had citizens among the victims.
The Ethiopian prime minister has expressed condolences to families of those lost in an Ethiopian airline’s flight to Nairobi.
Ethiopia declared a national day of mourning for Monday.
