Sri Lanka: Government orders nationwide curfew for second night

In Sri Lanka, night curfew remains in place for the whole country as more than 60 people have been taken into arrest for violence against Muslims during last two days.

No fresh incidents of violence has been reported on Tuesday and night curfew is in place from 9 PM to 4 AM. Curfew in affected northwestern province will continue and was relaxed for only two hours during the day.

Two people were killed and dozens of shops burnt in anti-Muslim riots since during past few days after Easter Sunday attacks had killed over 250 people.

Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Leader and Minister Rauff Hakeem called on the Prime Minister and tri-forces commanders to control the violent incidents.

In a statement, the minister said Muslims are suffering for a dastardly crime committed by a few with whom the larger Muslim community has nothing to do with whatsoever. United Nations has warned that if not adequately dealt, the recent violence has the potential to escalate even further.

Hate crimes has been on the rise against Muslims following Easter Sunday attacks which killed over 250 people including 45 foreigners.
