Nepal celebrates its 12th Republic Day today
Nepal is celebrating its 12th Republic Day on Wednesday. A number of programmes are being organised in different parts of the country to mark the occasion.
The main function was held at Army Pavilion in Kathmandu, which was attended by the President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister K.P.Sharma Oli, cabinet ministers, senior government officials, heads and representatives of various diplomatic missions and other dignitaries.
President Bhandari and Prime Minister Oli have greeted the people of Nepal on the occasion of Republic Day.
In her message President Bhandari said, this historic day inspires every Nepali to work for promoting national integration and fulfill common resolution of “Prosper Nepal, Happy Nepali” through Federal Democratic Republic form of governance.
Prime Minister K.P.Sharma Oli in his message said, Democratic Republic is not only a political system but also a process of entire social transformation.
He said food, housing, clothing,education, health facilities and security are the key points of development.
On Jesth 15, 2065 of Nepali Calendar (May 28, 2008) the Constituent Assembly of the Himalayan nation declared Nepal a Federal Democratic Republic, abolishing the 240 year-old monarchy. Since then, Nepal celebrates Jesth 15 as Republic Day every year.
