ASEAN-INDIA ministerial meet: EAM Jaishankar holds key bilateral meetings
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar has said ASEAN is a region of great importance for India. Speaking at ASEAN-India Ministerial Meet in the Thai capital Bangkok, the Minister said that India hopes to see a strong, unified & prosperous ASEAN playing a significant role in the emerging dynamic of the Indo-Pacific. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasised on furthering the ASEAN-India strategic partnership in the Indo-Pacific region at the ASEAN-India Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok. India, the US and several other world powers have been talking about the need to ensure a free, open and thriving Indo-Pacific. Discussions were held with an emphasis on sustainability, connectivity, and maritime cooperation.
On the sidelines of the Summit, External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar met with his counterparts from several nations. He had a warm meeting with Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi.
The two leaders will be meeting in Beijing as well. He also met the foriegn ministers of UK, Japan, indonesia, Phillipines, and few other nations. Dr. Jaishankar also participated in the 10th Mekong Ganga Cooperation Ministerial Meeting.
Meanwhile, at ASEAN Ministerial meet, United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo insisted that Washington has not asked ASEAN nations to choose between China and US.
