UK PM Boris Johnson loses key vote on Brexit

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Wednesday that his government would never surrender Brexit negotiations and that the country would leave the European Union on the October 31 deadline.

His remarks were directed at Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, with whom he sparred in parliament on Tuesday after the latter proposed a “surrender bill” ahead of a vote to stop a no-deal Brexit.

Late on Tuesday, UK lawmakers voted 328 to 301 to take control of the following day’s parliamentary agenda, which means that they will now attempt to block a no-deal Brexit.

The voting results revealed that 21 members of Johnson’s Conservative Party voted against him. Following his defeat, Johnson said he would call snap elections if the no-deal Brexit option was blocked by lawmakers on Wednesday.
