Aquaculture contributes significantly to regional development,says Aquavet Consulting

The fishery sector contributes 5.23% to the Gross Domestic Production (GDP of the agriculture sector and 0.91% to the total GDP of the country.
Aquavet Consulting and Indian poultry review in collaboration with West Bengal University of Animal and Fisheries Science, Kolkata to showcase the technological advances, innovations and development achieved in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Sector is organised a 3-day expo and Knowledge Conclave from 19th September to 21st September’2019, for the benefit of fish farmers,aqua industry and create awareness among general public.
The vibrancy of the sector can be visualized by overwhelming 17-fold increase that India achieved in fish production in six and half decades, i.e. from 0.75 million metric tons in 1950-51 to 12.6 million tonnes during 2017-18.
India ranks second in global fish production and aquaculture production. Aquaculture contributes to around 60% of fish production.India exported 1,377,244 metric tons of fish and fishery products worth an all-time high of USD7.08 billion (Rs. 45,106.89 crore) in 2017-18.
West Bengal is the leading fish producing and highest fish consuming state in the country and the no doubt the capital is the important gateway to most of our neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar.
The Aqua Show 2019 is a first its kind in Eastern India.Aquaculture in India is an important economic activity and a flourishing sector with varied resources and potentials.
