SLFP led by President Maithripala Sirisena signs an MoU with SLPP led by former President Mahinda Rajapakse
Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) led by President Maithripala Sirisena today signed an Memorandum of Understanding with Sri Lanka People’s party(SLPP) led by former President Mahinda Rajapakse for the upcoming Presidential elections.
Accordingly, SLFP will support SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapakse for the elections scheduled on 16th of next month. Addressing the ceremony, SLFP General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara said that both parties have agreed upon 27 policies and that there are no major dissimilarities between the two.
He said some think that his party will be faded but it will not. SLPP chairman Basil Rajapaksa said that the agreement is signed in a way that protects everyone who belongs to the two parties. It is noteworthy that SLPP was formed by breakaway group of SLFP after Mahinda Rajapakse lost to Sirisena In 2015 elections.
Meanwhile, the New Democratic Front held its inaugural campaign rally this afternoon in Colombo in support of presidential candidate and Minister Sajith Premadasa. The rally held under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was attended by thousands of supporters.
UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the UNP -led alliance together with its presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will form a new government if it wins the presidential election.He said people should decide whether they want a President who is imported or a Sri Lankan citizen as their leader.
