India-Bangladesh PM level virtual summit to be held in December

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hold a virtual summit level meeting in December this year.

The announcement was made by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar after a meeting of the Joint Consultative Commission with Bangladesh on Tuesday.

The 6th meeting of the Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) actually took place on Tuesday. The meeting was co-chaired by Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar and Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen.

India and Bangladesh have reviewed the expanding connectivity of road, rail, inland waterways and seaports, EAM Dr S.K. Jaishankar mentioned in a tweet. They also agreed to expedite progress on ongoing projects. The two sides agreed to continue cooperation in the energy sector, including third party projects.

Dr. S. Jaishankar announced that India has decided to release a commemorative stamp on December 16 this year to mark the centenary of the birth of Bangabandhu. He lauded the gesture made by Bangladesh in releasing the monument to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 150th birthday. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Mahatma, he declared the ‘Bangabandhu-Bapu Digital Museum’ in memory of the historic Mujib Barsho.

The JCC discussed the return to normalcy in trade and travel affected by COVID-19. Dr Jaishankar said the meeting addressed the special concerns of both sides on economic and trade issues.

The Bangladeshi foreign minister, who later briefed the media after the JCC, said in Kaka on Tuesday that the two sides discussed a number of issues, including water sharing, trade, credit line, Kovid 19, air bubble setting and deaths due to fire. .
