State Mike Pompey has cut short a trip to East Asia after Trump was admitted to hospital
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompey will limit his East Asia tour to Japan, which is scheduled for Oct. 4-8, and includes South Korea and Mongolia.
According to the State Department, Pompeo will leave for Japan today, but will not go to Mongolia and South Korea as originally planned. After US President Donald Trump was hospitalized with Kovid-19, he will return to Washington on October 6 after holding extensive meetings with the Foreign Ministers of India and Australia, in consultation with his Japanese counterpart.
Japan’s new Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga recently took office and U.S. relations with Beijing have been the worst in decades, with President Donald Trump and first lady Melania now infected in the wake of the coronavirus.
