Bagh Jatin statue destroyed in Bangladesh

The statue of legendary freedom fighter Bagha Jatin was vandalized by some thugs in Bangladesh’s Kushtia district on Thursday night.

The incident took place from Kaya College in Kumarkhali sub-district of Kushtia district Bangladesh. Police said they were conducting a drive to identify and arrest the culprits. Police are also questioning college officials for their negligence in protecting the sculpture.

Bagha Jatin was born in 1879 in the village of Koya in the present day Kushtia district of Bangladesh. The incident took place on December 4, a fortnight after the destruction of a statue of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia district. Police arrested two students and two teachers along with a local madrassa in connection with the incident.
