Swarnim Vijay Varsh Celebrations at Ahmednagar: 1971 War Veterans and Veer Nari Felecitated
As part of the series of events being organised all over India to commemorate 50th anniversary of the spectacular victory of Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, a Commemoration cum Felicitation function was organised at the Mechanised Infantry Regimental Centre (MIRC), Ahmednagar on 30 Jan 2021. A large number of 1971 War Veterans and a Veer Nari attended the function, which was conducted with traditional military grandeur. Lieutenant General Ved Gupta (Retired) was the Chief Guest at the function.
Major General S Jha, VSM, Commandant Armoured Corps Centre & School, Ahmednagar welcomed all invitees on behalf of the Armed Forces and highlighted the importance of the Swarnim Vijay Varsh celebrations. This was followed by narration of personal experiences of the war by a few Veterans. The speakers included Major General BS Malik (Retd), Brigadier RS Rawat, VSM (Retd) and Lieutenant Colonel Anant Gokhale. All Veterans who attended the function were felicitated by Major General S Jha while Mrs Anjana Jha felicitated Smt Shallan Bai wife of Late Sepoy Yadav Kamble, who had made the supreme sacrifice in the 1971 war.
A highlight of the event at Ahmednagar was the participation of two Bangladesh National Army (BNA) officers, who are currently attending a course at MIRC. Speaking at the felicitation function, Captain Ahsan of BNA recalled the decisive role played by the Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh and the special bonds of friendship shared between both the nations.
Performance by Military Bands as a befitting tribute to the heroism of fallen comrades, reminiscing a saga of unparalleled valour enthralled the audience. Children who participated in various competitions organised to commemorate the occasion were also given prizes by Mrs Anjana Jha.
Brigadier Vijai Singh Rana, VSM, Commandant, MIRC thanked all Veterans, Veer Nari and Civil Dignitaries for their presence at the ‘SWARNIM VIJAY VARSH’ celebrations. He also informed everyone that a Cyclothon and Military Equipment Display is being organised as part of the celebrations.
