US house clears over $600 billion Bill to improve defense ties with India
The US House of Legislatures has passed a defense policy bill worth $621.5 billion. The policy proposes to advance defense cooperation with India.
The amendment to the bill with reference to India was moved Indian-American Congressman Ami Bera .It was adopted by a voice vote by the House as part of the National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA) 2018. The act will come into force from October 2017 and was passed by the House 344-81.
The amendment to the bill specifies that the US Secretary of Defence, in conference with the Secretary of State, must develop a policy for advancing defence cooperation between the India and United States.The bill has agreed a time period of 180 days for the plan.
