83 candidates submit nomination for National Assembly election in Nepal

The nominations for the National Assembly election in Nepal filed on Wednesday. Total 83 candidates have submitted their nomination papers for upper house of the parliament.

The Election Commission had designated the High Courts at Biratnagar, Janakpur, Lalitpur, Pokhara, Dang, Surkhet and Doti as the offices of the returning officers for filing of nominations.

The candidates can withdraw their names on January 28 and final list will be published on the next day. Polling will be held on February 7 from 10 AM to 3 PM.

The National Assembly will have total 59 members. All seven provinces will elect 8 members each through an Electoral College comprising of members of State Assemblies and chief and deputy chiefs of local bodies.

The president will appoint remaining 3 members on recommendation of the government.

Total 2,056 voters including members of the State Assemblies, the chiefs and deputy chiefs of rural municipalities and the mayors and deputy mayors of municipalities will exercise their franchise in the National Assembly election.
