EAM to promote India-Russia Defence cooperation
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to take part in the NAM meet in Azarbaijan; says Nations should partner India as its the fastest growing large economy in the world; meets her Azarbaijan counterpart as Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also meets her counterpart in Moscow to enhance India-Russia Defence cooperation.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived in Azerbaijan’s capital Baku to participate in the midterm ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement, that takes place on Thursday and Friday.
She held a one on one bilateral meeting with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.
Issues of bilateral, regional and mutual interest were discussed. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s participation in the Non-Aligned meeting also underlines India’s active and constructive engagement with this movement.
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman is on a three-day visit to Russia to attend the 7th Moscow Conference on International Security.
She interacted with her Vietnamese counterpart on the sidelines of the conference.
On Tuesday, She had met her Russian counterpart Army General Sergei Shoigu. The meeting discussed reinforcing defence cooperation between India and Russia with a focus on military technical cooperation. The Defense Minister also met Russia’s Industry and Trade Minister Dennis Manturov.
