3rd round of talks between India & Sri Lanka on proposed ETCA begins
The third round of talks between India and Sri Lanka on proposed Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) is beginning today in Colombo.
The two-day talks, is being led by Joint Secretary in Ministry of Commerce and Industry from Indian side.
The proposed agreement seeks to expand trade in goods to services and investment sector.
Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wicremsinghe had earlier expressed hope that the deal could be concluded by end of 2016.
However, his government is facing opposition from some quarters over the deal.
Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman during her visit to Sri Lanka in September last year, had made it clear that negotiations should advance at a pace comfortable to Sri Lankan side.
