CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Centre) merge

The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) have merged and formed Nepal Communist Party.

The unification of both the parties was announced in the presence of CPN (UML) Chairman and Prime Minister of Nepal K.P.Sharma Oli and CPN (Maoist Centre ) Chief and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda in Kathmandu this evening.

Oli and Prachanda have been elected Co-Chairpersons of Nepal Communist Party. The new party will have nine member secretariat. There will be 45 members in the Standing Committee and 441 members in the Central Committee of Nepal Communist Party.

Addressing the party comrades, Co-Chair and Prime Minister K.P.Sharma Oli said that unification has created history and Nepal has entered into a new era of democracy. He said that unification will take Nepal to a new path of development and economic prosperity.

In his address Co-Chairperson of newly formed party Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda said that with the unification Nepal has given a new message of development and political stability to the international politics. He said that main objective of unification is prosperity and economic development of the country based on social justice.

The CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist Centre ) had announced electoral alliance in October last year and contested provincial and parliament elections together.

The Left Alliance had registered massive victory in the historic elections and formed government in the center and six provinces out of seven.
