India has welcomed the agreement reached at historic summit between Donald Trump and Kim. Calling it a positive development, the Ministry of External Affairs said that “India welcomes the United States-DPRK Summit held in Singapore.
This is a positive development. India has always supported all efforts to bring about peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and diplomacy.
On Tuesday US president Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Unsigned a document pledging to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean in return for US providing security guarantees to the DPRK.
After two rounds of talks the two leaders signed a joint statement, which reaffirmed the DPRK’s commitment to the April 27, 2018 Panmunjom Declaration, for complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
The summit meeting was the first of its kind between a sitting American president and a leader of North Korea.
The statement said that there is the new relationship between the United States and North Korea and that they will join efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime in the Korean Peninsula. Both countries will also repatriate each other’s prisoners and missing persons.
Donald Trump also said that he was suspending military exercises on the Korean Peninsula and that he expected the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, to move “very quickly” to dismantle his nuclear arsenal after a day of discussions in Singapore.
Howerver, Trump also said economic sanctions against North Korea would remain in place.
