U.S. Supreme Court upholds Trump’s travel ban

U.S. Supreme Court upholds President Trump’s travel ban, covering 7 countries including North Korea; President Trump hails the judgement as a tremendous victory for the American people.

U.S. President Donald Trump has hailed a Supreme Court ruling upholding his travel ban which covers people from several Muslim-majority countries.

The White House issued a statement saying the ruling was “a tremendous victory for the American People and the Constitution”.

The travel ban has been fully in place since December, when the justices put the brakes on lower court rulings that had ruled the policy out of bounds and blocked part of it from being enforced.

Lower courts had deemed the ban unconstitutional, but the US top court reversed the decision in a 5-4 conservative majority ruling.

The ban prohibits most people from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen from entering the U.S..
