PM Modi, S Korean President Moon Jae-in pay homage at Gandhi Smriti

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon Jae-in visited Gandhi Smriti, the place where Gandhiji was assasinated.

They paid tribute to the father of the nation, and listened to a few of his favourite bhajans sung by classical singer Vidya Shah.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed him at Gandhi Smriti in the heart of the National capital. Gandhi Smriti was earlier known as Birla House. This is the place where Bapu was shot at as he headed for his daily prayer meeting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen deep in conversation with the South Korean President as they walked up to the World Peace Gong. President Moon and Prime Minister Modi symbolically rang the Gong.

A symbol of brotherhood, peace and nature it was inaugurated at Gandhi Smriti to commemorate the centenary of Gandhiji’s first Satyagraha. It bears the national flags of all United Nations member countries and symbols of prominent religions of the world.

President Moon penned his thoughts in the visitors book….also sharing his message with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Union Minister Mahesh Sharma presented both leaders with momentos including a charkha that is synonomous with Bapu.

The two leaders also went around the Memorial. They saw the room in which Mahatma Gandhi lived as well as the various exhibits.
Walking along the path that Bapu tread before he was assasinated, the two leaders were seen deep in conversation.

Prime Minister Modi playing the perfect host explained the significance of the white foot marks depicting Bapu’s last steps.

President Moon and Prime Minister Modi paid floral tributes to Mahtma Gandhi. The two leaders then listened to Bhajans performed.

The visit to Gandhi Smriti gains significance as President Moon is seen as a face of peace.

He is leading the peace talks with North Korea that have resulted in a historic denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.
