Foundation stone laid for new college building in Sri Lanka with aid from India
In Sri Lanka, the foundation stone was laid to start the construction of new buildings at Saraswathy Central College in Pusselaw of Kandy district.
The renovation of the college is being done using a grant of around Rs. four crore from the Government of India.
The foundation stone was laid by Taranjit Singh Sandhu, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka jointly with Sri Lankan State Minister for Education Mr. V. Radhakrishnan.
Several Members of Parliament and Central Provincial Council, senior Officials along with a large number of public participated in the event.
The new buildings will accommodate science labs, lecture halls and teachers’ quarters.
The project also involves repair and renovation of existing buildings as well as full renovation of the school playground.
This project is in continuation of Government of India’s efforts to partner with Government of Sri Lanka in peoples oriented development projects especially in the field of education.
India’s overall commitment of development assistance to Sri Lanka stands at a total of around 3 billion US dollars, out of which 550 million is pure grant assistance.
